Timeline Theme!

Relationship Views Today

Hello there my lovelies! This post will be a little different, because my other beauty ideas require a little more planning and assistance. Plus, my energy is limited right now due to: finals in a week, graduation in 2 weeks, and all the extra to accomplish in between! My life is just a haze at this point.

So, I scrolled through social media and spoke to a friend about post inspiration, and the most common theme is relationships. Honestly, it is big in everything we read and watch, since we are so fascinated with the concept of love. Now, I feel like I should be the ghost writer for The Single Girl Chronicles, but this is my perspective and slight experience with this subject.. The College Edition!

Everyone around me (based on my timelines) is either getting married, having children, and moving into homes.. OR posting negatively on how relationships are near impossible to keep or trust. I am genuinely happy for my peers moving on up, so no hate or shade there. Now, my other peers I'm 50/50 with y'all on your complaints. There is so much more to be said that I won't cover, but that's why we have the comments! LOL

We are living in the age of side chicks/dudes being glorified, as if it is cute, but turn around and get mad if we get played (Oh and please stop KNOWINGLY being a side, nothing to be proud of!!!). These are the fake "I don't care", "It's gonna happen anyway", etc. types who are just scared inside. Screwing over people's feelings is no joke, so stop being so self-centered about your actions like you're the only one needing to be pleased. We like to fall back on our sob stories (which can be very much valid) but never get passed that and stay a victim. At this point, sadly, everyone has a story to explain why they are the way they are. However, this explanation is not to be an excuse, because we choose how to go forward with it no matter how hard the road to better may be. It is best to be honest up front to say what it is you're looking to gain from the new person you meet. May sound like an a**hole to some, but it's better to not ruin a person for the next by playing games.

Then we have the super sweet people pleasers who put themselves out there way too much. It is good to being selfish with yourself sometimes in a positive manner. Taking it too far will get you in that paragraph of hot mess above. Establish what you feel and your boundaries more often instead of just going with the flow, because the other person will never understand what you're going through unless you speak on it. I 100% understand how hard it is to bare feelings, since I have a wall up around me, but I am learning to get better. I suffered more (in general) by being complacent because it just built a bigger wedge between us. Since everything has a catch, don't go overboard knit picking, because you will feel annoyed with people in life at some level no matter what. This is when you check in with a friend to see if you are being petty or not. I have to call my mother because she knows I can be blunt and petty like no other.

Feeling alone is a hard road, and before things get better (your life period, not another person bringing "meaning" to you) it's going to get worse. I think you have to allow yourself to really feel all those emotions, so you know what you can handle for the future. Always have that safe person to go to, whether it be a friend, family member, or counselor. This person can keep you from being completely consumed in all the negative aspects. When that next potential partner comes around you aren't so ready to jump into it and get hurt because you're trying to keep up with everyone else or feeling a void that isn't meant for them. Don't fall for any and everything with just anyone to pass the time. Now, I'm not saying only test for that true love and long lasting relationship (because who knows what that looks like in the beginning), but get to know people and go out on a couple of dates to reacquaint yourself and see what you're in to. You know, try not to do things you will regret, but hey... you live and you learn. People are unpredictable, so no matter how "good" you're being you can't safeguard against everything.

We are always harder on ourselves, but I have faith that when the time is right certain things will come to us, and we will be blessed! We get so stuck on superficial things and social media, we don't actually get to know ourselves or the other person involved. At the end of the day you have to enjoy yourself and your life, so those actions and the role you're playing in someone's life (and vice versa) matters!

Much Love,

Khariah

Blast From the Past 2.0

At fourteen they asked me what I wanna be..

(Schoolin' Life reference!)

With all things I was interested in when growing up, and still am honestly, I am definitely going down the right career path! I promise you I wanted to be a spy so bad! You know, there is just a special appeal of undercover justice and being able to lay someone out in 2 seconds... Batman would approve. Also, look at the shows I watched: Powerpuff Girls, Totally Spies, Kim Possible (same initials and everything), Justice League, Spider-Man, Teen Titans, Static Shock! Me being me, it was more than just the shows, but books as well. I'm telling y'all I was (am) a nerd, but it is what it is LOL!

Squad Series:

I found this at the local library (free unless you rack up late fees of course lol), and I was initially turned off. I am not the cheerleading peppy type of girl, so I was wondering how cornball-ish this was going to be. I was wrong.

Toby Klein was far from "that type" of (airhead, popular) girl, but mainly because she relished in being different. She was a brilliant hacker, who despised her cliché high school that was centered around the jocks and cheerleaders. Well, one day she got a note from one of the cheerleaders to tryout for the team, but it wasn't just a regular piece of paper. It was double coded to the max, and once she accidentally discovered the hidden messages, she decided to see what was up with them. She meets these varsity girls and soon realizes she was the shallow, uninformed one. Long story short, each girl had an elite skillset in weapons, combat, intelligence, agility, etc. They were covert government operatives that could easily go undetected. Who's checking for the dumb cheerleaders? Toby realized that what they are doing isn't just basic assists, but uncovering deadly schemes and information that is detrimental to the nation's security. Now all she has to do is not mess up. She does actually have to the whole cheer thing, which she absolutely could do with out. Getting up at the crack of dawn to work on the case, and then practice right after, followed up by classes. Just NO!! 2 books, with enough variety and relatable attitude, to keep you turning those pages!
  • Terrorist threats!
  • Mission gone bloody wrong!
  • Captain now rogue?
  • Homecoming court (boy) drama of course!

Gallagher Girls Series:

Enter Gallagher Academy, an all girl prep school for only the elite of America. Special focuses on grooming these young women into being the greatest spies we have ever seen. Bruh.. If I could have found this school in real life I would have been their IMMEDIATELY!!

Cammie Morgan is one of the best in the school speaking, 14 different languages, taking martial arts as PE, and could kill a man with a few well placed noodles (Ehh she's a beast)! She is really known around campus as a chameleon, because she only lets you see her when she wants to be see. While she is tactically trained, Cammie doesn't really know how to interact on a "normal" level. As life goes, she begins to fall in love (she's like a sophomore and it's so funny now, because poor thing really thought it was love) but isn't sure how to handle it. He is just your average guy she wants to get close to and experience more than what is taught at Gallagher Academy. This guy though, is he really average? Where did he come from? HE's too good to be true, and we know how that goes. Well, Cammie is about to have a serious life lesson here on who to trust and let in, especially when you have access to some of the most valuable information and connections in the world. There are 6 books in this series, and boy does it get crazy!
  • The school's security gets breached, and Cammie is looking like a prime suspect. Also, there is a merge with the boy's covert spy academy. Why guys and girls don't get along... we are to competitive!
  • Mom's acting suspicious, ex-boyfriends popping up as if they never knew you, and school consequences looming.
  • Kidnapping ordeal with her and her best friend (whose father is up for Vice President of the US), so that's a big deal. Who wants to take out this family and why?
  • terrorist organizations, trusted ally being a rogue double-agent (fake friends everywhere I swear)!
  • Months of memories forgotten, which are detrimental to everyone's survival. Which means... who really is the "good guy" in all of this?
  • And the climax in the last book tying all of these events together!! Why has Cammie been hunted? Who started this and why? What does this mean for her, and this country?!

FUN FACT!!!!

I absolutely LOVE comic books!! I unfortunately do not have a collection, but do have some left over from my childhood. I am partial to Marvel, but honestly will read any and all of them. I get way too hype when these movie adaptations come out, but every kid hopes to see their favorite characters on the big screen some day! Stan Lee just needs to stay around forever for me, I enjoy his cameos in all the movies LOL!

Thank You!

I Dedicate this to You..

I just want to thank everyone for all their support on this blog (and don't forget my cousin Jillian a.k.a. Juice blog)! Doing this is definitely a self-discovery process. I'm making time to sit down and really discuss what I enjoy to do, and sharing a piece of myself with you all! There is something about taking a step back to really see yourself, and how these things contribute to making you happy. I'm the type, that no matter the subject at hand, I generally take away something from it (good or bad), and it gives me some form of new perspective. Basically, I love to learn in a more flexible sense and variety. I am a beast in the classroom too though, so don't get it twisted! LOL!

As the semester is coming to an end, specifically with me finishing my undergrad, things are at crunch time! So, there may be more breaks between posts as I continue to gather my life, because it's all getting SUPER REAL! The idea behind my blog is to be relatable and give a break from more serious matters for just a moment. I am very conscious and caught up on current affairs/events, but also understand how oversaturation can stress a person. So, I'm just here trying to give a little break in the day, that can be possibly helpful and entertaining. I appreciate every subscription, comment, and view! I also notice when you share my blog on social media, as it just warms my heart! So, again thank you for riding this wave with me, and stay tuned for more posts to come!

P.S. Ratchet Mondays are lit on Twitter! Sue me, I enjoy bad reality TV sometimes. My line up: Love and Hip Hop ATL, Basketball Wives, and The Family Hustle.

Vampire Academy Vol. 2

My Homegirl Rose is BACK!!!!

I told y'all last time, Rose is down with the action and takes no mess! Her and the crew (names below) survive the deathly crisis at the end of book one, but it creates new wounds. Rose is partially in denial, but aware something big is brewing, yet she can't explain it. The end of book one really gives us the key players of the series (I'll toss in relational ties as well).

The Crew:
  • Rose- Guardian trainee, Lissa's bf/protector, Love/hate friendship with Christian (sibling like), Mason and Eddie's friend, and Dimitri's.....? (Things got very heated in the last book *sips tea*)
  • Lissa- Royal moroi (last of her line with a rare power), Rose's bf, Christian's love
  • Dimitri- Certified guardian (OG), teacher/protector of all students, His "Roza's"....? (Is that a pet name he has for Rose *pours more tea*)
  • Christian- Royal (yet shunned for controversial reasons) moroi, Lissa's love, love/hate friendship with Rose (sibling like)
  • Mason- Guardian trainee, Rose's friend (has a crush on her), Eddie's bf
  • Eddie- Guardian trainee, friends with everyone, Mason's bf
  • Mia- Moroi, frenemy?

More Power, More Problems

Book two is entitled Frostbite. It is the dead of winter and close to the holidays when everyone should be relaxed and cheery. Rose and Dimitri are on their way to see one of the most legendary guardians of all time, for her Qualifier exam. Each guardian much pass this in order to take the next steps in their official studies. (Think passing finals to move on to the next grade, only it makes or breaks her whole life plans)!!! When they arrive to the royal home the legend guardian is working in, they come across more than they bargained for. The home is a blood bath and everyone, moroi and guardian alike are dead, and it is baffling. Strigoi must have attacked, but like I said in the first post, they don't work in groups. Well, to kill so many people in this home at least 6 or 7 had to have organized this attack. The only problem that they note is, Strigoi LITERALLY couldn't have touched the house.... so how did they get in and passed several guardians??

Nowhere to Hide

The academy is in uproar and parents are concerned about the safety of their children. They are shipped off to a fancy ski resort with the royal families, so everyone can be protected in one place. I clearly went to the wrong schools! Lissa is concerned, but since she is also recovering from her physical and mental issues from book one, Rose is sheltering her. They try to work on Lissa's newly named power of spirit, which can bring life to the dead. Well, flashing back in time we note a fatal car crash took Lissa's family, but she did manage to save one person from the dead without even realizing it... Rose. We now know why Rose is starting to change, but she doesn't, and the question is will she be able to save herself? Especially when the strigoi attack their safe ski trip killing another royal family!

She Has Risen!

Their society is in uproar, and fights are breaking out left and right amongst friends, relationships, and moroi. This leads to an overzealous bunch wanting to desperately prove themselves worthy, to track down Strigoi without any real experience, or a guardian present. Once again Rose is always the person who realizes ish has hit the fan, and doesn't understand why these fools wont listen to her! She goes to bring them back to the ski lodge, but sees what they don't see... They found the Strigoi's lair and plan. Naturally, she's trying to make moves out the place (she said she ain't no superhero!), but they end up getting captured. Time ticks by and the Strigoi are taunting and torturing them for days, but Rose finally has risen when she witnesses a death that breaks her heart and soul.

The story is not even close to being over, because whatever issues that have stayed to the side, are now bringing themselves to the forefront. Your heart and mind goes on a ride it never imagined. REMBEMBER: these snippets nowhere near summarized all the juice in these books!! HAVE TO READ ;)

Much Love,
Khariah

Love the Skin You're In!

Take Care

This is for the people who really struggle with maintaining a routine really. There are also some who don't feel like buying too many products, or can't afford it. I find it hard to have a face routine for some reason, but I am working on it!

Items:
  • Face scrubbie (y'all I don't remember the package name LOL)

  • Dove Sensitve Skin bar soap
  • Vaseline (or any good oil you like, I won't speak on coconut oil personally since it irritates my skin)
  • Wash cloth (there is always one in the bunch that is "the face rag")
  • Wipes (depending on makeup)

Steps:
  1. If you have on makeup I always suggest using any sensitive wipe to get that layer off. Just because you see a lot of product on the wipe it doesn't mean stop here!
  2. I found the face scrubbie thing in a 2-pack for around $3 at Walmart. I rub the bar soap on the scrubbie to get a good lather and scrub across my face. The feel is very nice since they aren't harm bristles, but EXTREMELY flexible and soft. It really exfoliates and rubs away any dry/peeling skin without a lot of work or redness. As far as makeup you will see the excess product lather up when scrubbing.
  3. Vaseline depends on your makeup status in my opinion. When I have really tough makeup (formulas meant to last by being water/smudge proof). I will put a thin layer on my face, but not where I look greasy, and use my wet scrubbie. This gets those super tough products to completely come up without drying your face out. Follow up with soap and water of course to get rid of residue.
  4. The wet washcloth is simply for that residue from the soap and Vaseline. I don't know about y'all, but a hot cloth feels amazing to the face.
  5. After the wash, to moisturize the skin I use the Vaseline again. Now by NO means do I look like a greasy mess, but a little goes a long way. Again any alternative oils ,be my guest. Vaseline doesn't clog the pores and can be used literally head to toe. This keeps your face from being dry the next morning. Remember VERY LITTLE.
These steps are subjective to what your face is doing. If you don't have on makeup, then you can go straight to 2,4, and 5. All of this is what I do of course and just a suggestion. I'm a very minimal person the majority of the time and like to keep things easy and cheap. All of these that I have in my bathroom anyway (the scrubbie was new), and wanted to work on my face. My face isn't flawless, but I haven't had any aggressive redness, breakouts, or drying skin. I feel sensitive skin products are very good so it doesn't enflame anything you do or don't know about (allergies, scents, eczema).

Let's keep being naturally beautiful, and caring for the one skin we have, under our makeup fun!!

Much Love,
Khariah

End-Week Stimulous!!

Brain Relief and Refresher

Bookshots are like a little pick-me-up in my opinion, since they aren't as overwhelming with so many pages like other novels (more pages the better for me!!!). Fridays mean you want to wind down and relax, and I've expressed multiple times how I feel books are a mini escape. Even though we've reached the end of the week, we still gotta keep our brain pumping in some way! Like any other muscle, it needs to be worked out to stay healthy! So, pick these up in your down time on the weekend when you aren't busy or preparing to get lit that night! Remember: relieve and refresh!

Mitchum is back in Malicious! After dealing with the massive crisis of his cousin missing and bodies turning up in their small town, another issue has been brought to him (see "Mid-Week Brain Teaser"). This time his brother is coming to him for help. By now I know he feels like his family is WAY TOO problematic! Mitchum's P.I. "business" is just starting to open up with helping in more broad spectrums for his local community. He genuinely does it out of the kindness of his heart. He always wanted to be a SEAL, and even though he unwillingly became a dropout, that is still who he has always been. His brother called him about a homicide; their childhood friend has been murdered and the police in the next county over has decided not to investigate.

You see, Mitchum's brother Nathaniel (Natty) is a drug dealer, and their childhood friend got mixed up in the life as well. He hid it better than Natty, but his murder is not just some gang affiliate consequence though. Natty believes some serious people of status are involved here, so he calls his brother in to help. As Mitchum starts to investigate, the theories keep running back to his brother. Why would he call him to help though? But he does have solid motive, seeing as how he has been secretly sleeping with the dead man's wife. No one trusts a drug dealer, especially since they are considered to be nothing but "thugs" (I feel that is subjective thinking). However, you never know what led them to what they do, and they could redeem themselves... if that's what they want to do. Once again, Mitchum is being hunted down and having shots fired at him at every turn. A dangerous showdown happens and those who should be trusted are involved, and now Mitchum is worried if he'll make this one out alive.

The bookshots range in topics and series formats, but I am obviously partial to mysteries and crime stories, due to my major. I figured I might as well follow up with our man Mitchum, but I already have other genres of books on standby! Now have a great weekend my lovelies!!

Much Love,
Khariah

MUSIC CULTURE

The Get Down!

This series is a Netflix Original about the beginning stages of Hip-Hop! It follows a group of teens from the south side of the Bronx in the late 1970s (77 to be exact), and what the hood truly looks like. They give a raw and honest portrayal of how relations really were for blacks and Latinos. Growing up in the ghetto with dreams is no easy deal, especially when you consider all the political and drug wars tearing the borough apart. Music was the common denominator for them, but one side was disco and the other was the underground sound of Hip-Hop. This was a time when they didn't accept or believe that this type of music would last. Disco was all the rage, and no one wanted to hear what these boys from the hood (I know what I did here lol!) had to say. TRAILER BELOW!

Main characters to know:

  • Ezekiel 'Books' Figuero
  • Mylene Cruz
  • Shaolin Fantastic
  • Ra-Ra
  • Boo-Boo
  • Dizzee
  • Yolanda
  • Regina
  • All of their family members play a HUGE roll in how certain things play out as well! (fasten your seatbelts)
Ezekiel (Zeke) sees himself as an orphan due to both of his parents being dead, which was simply a consequence of their circumstances. He finds solace in music, yet he is brilliant! He is both streetwise and a genius in the classroom. He is being told/pushed to go the "right" way, but that means leaving his passions behind. Zeke and his crew of friends just want to enjoy being themselves without the pressures of what they're "supposed" to do. They get sucked into this mystery guy called Shaolin Fantastic, he is an enigma to them, a superhero. Shaolin had the coveted "in" with Grandmaster Flash, a founder of the Hip-Hop movement.

Mylene Cruz has a blessed voice and she sings in her father's church, but that isn't really the type of girl she is. Her father is very strict in his interpretation of their religion, so if it isn't gospel, it is a disgusting sin. However, she loved disco, but has to sneak around to listen to it and sing it. Her friends had more freedom in their home life (Regina has WAY too much), so together they explore the nightlife of disco. Ezekiel has always loved Mylene, but she wasn't thinking about giving him any play! Even so, Zeke still believed in her as he always helped her out with her dreams. Their lives change though when they each get life altering opportunities to be more than the stereotypical teens from the hood. It is known, some of the greatest talents are bred there!

I could write all day about little bits of juicy drama this show holds, but it is best to watch it! The 2nd season just recently dropped with 5 episodes (last season had 6), with each being at least 50mins or so a piece. The finale episode is always longer though, about an hour or over. You get an unfiltered view of gangs, family secrets, political set ups, the grimy music industry, etc. This is an important show to bring us all back to the true history and culture of Hip-Hop! All the music referenced and elite contributors are factual, so we can stand to learn more! A good follow up would be watching the Hip-Hop Evolution (also on Netflix), as it chronicles the very start to the present, and you will be AMAZED at the greatness!!!

Much Love,
Khariah

That FREE .99!!

Stories on the Go!

Wattpad

I'm back again with the amazing Wattpad app! I have a pretty extensive library going on, and it's so fun to get caught up in the different genres. This time I will be coming to you with a more "urban" selection. Why does urban generally mean the hood version of something LOL?? That's the section I had to find these stories under, but swear they don't qualify as "hood"! My lil sideline commentary is over so.... back to the topic!

Crossing Lines is written by user Lowkey_Lullaby. This storyline comes from a few different characters, and how they all overlap and intertwine into one another's life. The McCall family has their own family company that brings them in a lot of riches and attention. Not one scandal has marred their reputation. The McCall brothers are married and in love, thus following the example their parents set. This would be true if you met them some time ago, but not anymore. Andrew McCall really does love and adore his wife (high school sweethearts), yet his wife, Vanessa, has decided to push him away with no warning or explanation. He would never step out on his marriage, but it has been around 6 months with no change. It doesn't help he literally just ran into  captivating woman named Tiffany.

Raymond McCall seemed to adore his wife Lauren and their children, until a tragic car accident left his wife in a wheelchair. So, while she is in physical therapy hoping to walk again, he has decided to step out on their marriage at any chance he gets. He no longer cares for his wife the way a husband should, and she feels all alone and a burden with this handicap. Raymond has become quite obsessed with a new flame, leaving Lauren to figure out how to raise their young boys while enduring therapy. Each person we come across has a tie leading to someone and something else. What's done in the dark, shall come to the light. So be careful of the boundaries you cross. A mature adult read, and if I didn't go back and skim some things... smh. I clearly edited some things out in my memory! Overall, a solid read that had me ready to jump in the story ready to get hype LOL!!

Him, written by user queenalisa (Queen Alisa). First off she has written 4 other stories, and these two main characters appear in three of the works (one of them is the sequel to this)! However, this story can be read without the others. Carmen and Justin go way back to the sandbox, but they have grown! Carmen is finishing college, while Justin is already playing in the NBA with a full blown career. Carmen has been in love with Justin, but she dare not mess up her relationship with her best friend. Like come on he is in the NBA, so there is no way he isn't getting the hottest women around! How does she compete with that? There is cute flirting back and forth via FaceTime, texts, and phone calls, but what does it really mean? Carmen is just like us trying to figure out the signals and how far to read into them, plus add in the weight of insecurities. While she may frustrate you a bit at times, I know I would be all out of sorts if my life long crush was a celebrity athlete!

I really enjoyed this novel! It is always refreshing to get a book you feel is relatable to your day to day life, and your own prospective. Unfortunately I didn't grow up with my celebrity crushes... not even one! I'll just say for adult audience, even though I don't remember anything wild in the book! I highly recommend reading her other works as it is simply delightful! I believe one is still in progress and another she may be going through editing, but the story is still posted.

Feel free to comment any questions and/or suggestions because I am always here for it and love it! I try to respond, but as life goes, I sometimes get the notifications in the midst of class or other engagements. I be seeing them though and feel the love!!

Much Love,
Khariah

You know you love me...

xoxo Gossip Girl

Okay, so I was supposed to post yesterday but life has been happening. Friends and family still blessed and recovering, and I'm back to this last month grind in undergrad!!! Senioritis from high school is nothing like what you'll experience in your last semester of college. You think you know, but TRUST ME when that last semester hit (especially the last weeks) you will start contemplating your life and if you need a degree!! Any who, moving on...

Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar. Can you imagine all your secret dealings, including your friends, family, and enemies being broadcasted all across the city? Well that is what is happening here. The Upper East Side of New York City holds the richest and most connected families you have ever seen, and their children are going to high school together. Nothing but groundbreaking drama ensues, with the costs being more than anyone ever imagined. Drugs, sex, death, and much more! An unknown blogger by the name of Gossip Girl holds all of their secrets, but how?

This series right here is straight FLAMES!! I started reading them in middle school and loved every book! Well, every book I read because they were published from 2002-2011, thus spilling over into those hectic high school years. There are 13 novels (one is an alternative world) and also a side story about the Carlyles (another Upper East Side family 4 novels), but that isn't all and I'll get to that later!

Let me give y'all a rundown of the most important  Gossip Girl characters though!:
  • Blair Waldorf
  • Serena van der Woodsen
  • Nate Archibald
  • Dan Humphrey
  • Jenny Humphrey
  • Vanessa Abrams
  • Chuck Bass

This novel series was picked up and turned into a TV series (available on Netflix)!! I was hype when it began airing in 2007(-2012), since I read at least 6 or 7 of the books. Immediately, I noticed that the show is loosely based on the novels; however, the main points are still the same. I would say this is one of the few book to show/movie adaptations that feels more like an alternative (remake) story, rather than just a mess with a title steal. In the book things are very much different though, so no reading to guess the show ending. Some characteristics of out main crop of characters are slightly different, as well as their storylines being completely changed! One in particular is Jenny Humphrey!

It is the later I mentioned, and Cecily von Ziesegar has worked her magic again!!! She wrote the The It Girl series (10 novels) as a spin off from Gossip Girl, focusing on Jenny Humphrey. Remember "book Jenny" is nothing like the show character! One SPOILER I will give is that Jenny does leave the Upper East Side to attend a boarding school, which brings us here! And it is DOPE you hear me!!!!

Waverly Academy is a new start from Jenny as she leaves her Manhattan self behind. She comes across a new elite group (because that's a regular occurrence in real life), and finds herself in the mix. There is no anonymous blogger here sabotaging the group, they do it the old fashioned way: on accident or maliciously. Everyone is apart of the drama, because the boarding school is set up the students and teachers are always around each other *sips tea*... The battles of love, betrayal, lies, and deceit are rampant here at Waverly. Jenny Humphrey was trying to leave her old life behind, but she may need to pick it back up to show everyone exactly who she is!

COLOURPOP!

Newest Haul for My Collection

It is no secret I love lipstick, and one of the best companies out there is Colourpop! The price of the lippies are only $5 and $6... Yes, they are really that cheap! You can only order online from them, so there is a shipping cost of an additional $5 to your total, but there are ways around this. When you visit their website you can register your email to get $5 off your purchase (meaning no shipping fee)!!

They tend to have markdowns for the holidays and even specials of free shipping, so it's basically deals on deals on deals! They often partner with models, celebrities and makeup artists to create their own customized colors or collection. Colourpop offers more than lipstick: eyeliner, shadow, blush, highlighter, etc. I have not tried out the other cosmetics, but they do look great. I'm just a lippie junkie! I have a LARGE BOX full, and I will share that with y'all one day when it's organized.

Their lipsticks come in 5 different finishes:

  • Ultra Matte- Long-lasting (literally until you take it off at night, and I suggest using something oil based), SUPER matte finish (drying, but a very light swipe of chapstick under will save your lips), and absolutely TRANSFER PROOF.
  • Ultra Satin-  Long-lasting (clings to the lips all day, but easier to remove since it doesn't dry as quick and set in like ultra matte), Matte finish (not drying, MOISTURIZING quality), and slight transfer, but keeps consistent wear for me.
  • Ultra Glossy- High shine and moisturizing (the ONLY finish I do not own, but since it is gloss you can't really go wrong).
  • Ultra Metallic- It does not have a glittery wear like some other metallic lips do. The metallic isn't overbearing, but a more subtle additive to the color. Definitely can go out in at any time of day with it on. May need liner or a second coat for desired opaqueness. Matte finish, but slight transfer.
  • Lippie Stix- Lasting power depends (lasts better with straw and fork action when eating), Matte finish (not a drying formula since it's closer to regular lipstick), VERY comfortable wear and moisturizing (smells so amazing!), and of course it will transfer (carry with you on a night out). Honestly one of my favorites!!!

These are just the three shades I bought recently and I swatched them out of order accidently when compared to the boxes above. Looking at my hand left to right: Lumiere (stix), Dopey (satin), and Kae (matte)!

Don't Step Foot in There

The Murder House

From the world's #1 bestselling writer...

A prime oceanfront view on a private beach in the Hamptons was discovered centuries ago. It’s an absolutely a stunning home, well a multi-million dollar mansion actually! No one lives there anymore, and hasn't for years because it is believed to be curse, and with very good reason. A series of murders spanning generations has occurred there, but this all ended decades ago. Or so everyone thought. A gruesome double-homicide occurs within these walls and Hampton PD is on the move immediately and arrests their prime suspect.

Detective Jenna Murphy has left the NYPD and is now working under Chief Langdon James, her uncle. She loves the thrill of her job and has always been an elite detective. So, why did she leave Manhattan, where she saw way more action? The Hamptons is a slow town with  a small community of the rich, and only during the summer when celebrities come to town does it get busy. This case in the Murder House has rocked everyone, and is right up Jenna's alley as she is confident she is the only one in this little town who is skilled enough to handle it. However, she isn't a native New Yorker, Jenna is from the Hamptons and a vague memory from her past haunts her literally day and night. All she knows is something happened to her, and it has something to do with the Murder House.

The book jumps in with a flashback from 1995, foreshadowing a devious child who caused mass panic in his school at just 12 years old. After that we jump forward to present day and as mentioned the police jump on their prime suspect, Noah Walker, and find all the evidence they need practically tied up in a bow. The case is coming together flawlessly against Noah, but he swears he did not commit these murders, but he knows the victims and had the motive. It doesn't help that there are some sketchy secrets in his past. Jenna Murphy feels like she should believe him, yet doesn't really know why. She launches her own investigation into him, the city, and that house. The closer she looks, bodies start turning up and it has much more going on than just this double-homicide. Something has been happening under their noses for years!

Broke... But Still Cute!

Schoolin' Life!

Don't need a lot of money to KILL IT!

Well since I got nice comments on my look Sunday, I will take it as I did well with my makeup! LOL! I will acknowledge that I am good at applying makeup and what works with my face. I think the most important part is people forget that a certain look may be cute online and someone else, but you need to modify the process and shades to match your face best!

All items I used in this look, and majority of my looks really, have been found in Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens. Oh and since I use this stuff on the regular some things are rubbed off and you will see the pan. Many of these are Wet n Wild cosmetics, which are boss and cheap! I am aware you also need to be conscious of they type of skin you have: dry, oily, combination, smooth, or break-out prone.

My Face Type: Aside from lipstick, this is my face with no makeup or filter

  • Pretty smooth
  • Oily some thanks to the state and city I'm currently in. Back home my face was pretty chill, but you know climate and humidity changes things.
  • Really don't get breakouts

The Look:

So, I was bored and applied makeup. I felt like I have been looking like a bum for the last few weeks and decided to dress up my braids. Yes, dressing up my braids means dressing up my face.
  • Primer: I put a medium amount on my face and it sucks up any excess oils on my face. And I did wash my face prior to get a good clean start.

  • Foundation: 2 in 1 deal as it is supposed to have concealer already mixed in. Truly does have a pretty good coverage and isn't splotchy or streaky. (I use a sponge beauty blender)

  • Brow Pencil: All you need is a few good strokes and blend with the spoolie. I did not do the concealer around the brow because I just didn't want to. I feel it still looks good and I am a fan of my brows looking like they belong on my face and not randomly placed there. (my brows stay pretty naturally arched even though its been months without waxing)

  • Highlight/Contour: We need to keep it pretty classy looking in this area. I should not be able to make out stripes of where you put this. The highlight looks really pale but blends in tremendously. The contour blends really well, and I have even used it as bronzer on lazy days with a brush. The colors are buildable, so it isn't like a straight swipe of chocolate brown on my face.

  • Bronzer: I use it more so to just blend and buff out around the contour if anything is too harsh, or not exactly to my liking. Also, since I'm not a blush girl it tends to casually (is there a fancy way?) swipe across my cheeks. (Got this at ulta actually. Revolution bronzer... it was super cheap and there)

  • Setting Spray: It locks in the important parts of my look, so I don't turn around and see my contour or bronzer hasn't migrated straight up on my cheek and under-eye area. Just keeps from any overall splotches.

  • Eyeliner: I greatly prefer liquid liner because of it's precision. Another preference is the marker and fine tip over the fine tip in the pot thingy (you get it and see it). the marker is easy to swipe around, but isn't as deathly black as I like. The inkwell type takes a seriously steady hand, but does have the blackness I enjoy.

  •  Mascara: I've tried many of mascaras, but this is the BEST by far! My lashes curl up in a nice fashion already, but a friend of mines who lases don't, enjoyed the lift this gives. They lengthen lashes without feeling weighted or flakey. Wears all day even when I rub my eyes.

  • Highlight (Glow): Clearly different than the earlier mentioned one. This is so fun and considered unnecessary by some. This swiped on so good and I wish the camera did it better justice, I also could've swiped on a little more to be poppin, but I was getting hungry. I usually get right on top of the cheekbone, right over my brow from outer tip to arch (opens up the face/eye area), bridge of nose and tip (my face naturally highlights there so I put very little), and my cupids bow.

  • Lipstick: Always the fun part!!!!! Picking a color is always tough because I have sit there and be like "Khariah what you aiming for today. We got our go to reds like mom back in the day. Those 90's vibes browns, because there were straight glistening baby! Oh we got a couple fun purples, that orange-ish color, or metallic mixes. Actually we got a legit truck/box full! *insert thinking face emoji*" I was basic and went with a mixed up nude. I added a coffee bean brown and wine pencil liner from Revlon.

All these steps are why I do not wear makeup everyday! Love it, but there is this thing called sleep that I love more. Leaving my place before class starts is already challenge enough. I do full on eyeshadow and stuff if its a serious event and there is ample time I want to invest. If I do have time for makeup on an average day I do mascara and lipstick (foundation if I'm really feeling frisky)!
