Broke... But Still Cute!

Schoolin' Life!

Don't need a lot of money to KILL IT!

Well since I got nice comments on my look Sunday, I will take it as I did well with my makeup! LOL! I will acknowledge that I am good at applying makeup and what works with my face. I think the most important part is people forget that a certain look may be cute online and someone else, but you need to modify the process and shades to match your face best!

All items I used in this look, and majority of my looks really, have been found in Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens. Oh and since I use this stuff on the regular some things are rubbed off and you will see the pan. Many of these are Wet n Wild cosmetics, which are boss and cheap! I am aware you also need to be conscious of they type of skin you have: dry, oily, combination, smooth, or break-out prone.

My Face Type: Aside from lipstick, this is my face with no makeup or filter

  • Pretty smooth
  • Oily some thanks to the state and city I'm currently in. Back home my face was pretty chill, but you know climate and humidity changes things.
  • Really don't get breakouts

The Look:

So, I was bored and applied makeup. I felt like I have been looking like a bum for the last few weeks and decided to dress up my braids. Yes, dressing up my braids means dressing up my face.
  • Primer: I put a medium amount on my face and it sucks up any excess oils on my face. And I did wash my face prior to get a good clean start.

  • Foundation: 2 in 1 deal as it is supposed to have concealer already mixed in. Truly does have a pretty good coverage and isn't splotchy or streaky. (I use a sponge beauty blender)

  • Brow Pencil: All you need is a few good strokes and blend with the spoolie. I did not do the concealer around the brow because I just didn't want to. I feel it still looks good and I am a fan of my brows looking like they belong on my face and not randomly placed there. (my brows stay pretty naturally arched even though its been months without waxing)

  • Highlight/Contour: We need to keep it pretty classy looking in this area. I should not be able to make out stripes of where you put this. The highlight looks really pale but blends in tremendously. The contour blends really well, and I have even used it as bronzer on lazy days with a brush. The colors are buildable, so it isn't like a straight swipe of chocolate brown on my face.

  • Bronzer: I use it more so to just blend and buff out around the contour if anything is too harsh, or not exactly to my liking. Also, since I'm not a blush girl it tends to casually (is there a fancy way?) swipe across my cheeks. (Got this at ulta actually. Revolution bronzer... it was super cheap and there)

  • Setting Spray: It locks in the important parts of my look, so I don't turn around and see my contour or bronzer hasn't migrated straight up on my cheek and under-eye area. Just keeps from any overall splotches.

  • Eyeliner: I greatly prefer liquid liner because of it's precision. Another preference is the marker and fine tip over the fine tip in the pot thingy (you get it and see it). the marker is easy to swipe around, but isn't as deathly black as I like. The inkwell type takes a seriously steady hand, but does have the blackness I enjoy.

  •  Mascara: I've tried many of mascaras, but this is the BEST by far! My lashes curl up in a nice fashion already, but a friend of mines who lases don't, enjoyed the lift this gives. They lengthen lashes without feeling weighted or flakey. Wears all day even when I rub my eyes.

  • Highlight (Glow): Clearly different than the earlier mentioned one. This is so fun and considered unnecessary by some. This swiped on so good and I wish the camera did it better justice, I also could've swiped on a little more to be poppin, but I was getting hungry. I usually get right on top of the cheekbone, right over my brow from outer tip to arch (opens up the face/eye area), bridge of nose and tip (my face naturally highlights there so I put very little), and my cupids bow.

  • Lipstick: Always the fun part!!!!! Picking a color is always tough because I have sit there and be like "Khariah what you aiming for today. We got our go to reds like mom back in the day. Those 90's vibes browns, because there were straight glistening baby! Oh we got a couple fun purples, that orange-ish color, or metallic mixes. Actually we got a legit truck/box full! *insert thinking face emoji*" I was basic and went with a mixed up nude. I added a coffee bean brown and wine pencil liner from Revlon.

All these steps are why I do not wear makeup everyday! Love it, but there is this thing called sleep that I love more. Leaving my place before class starts is already challenge enough. I do full on eyeshadow and stuff if its a serious event and there is ample time I want to invest. If I do have time for makeup on an average day I do mascara and lipstick (foundation if I'm really feeling frisky)!
